Mission
We don't just raise funds. We raise our standards.
As a not-for-profit hospital, we are a community-owned healthcare system. Translation? No one person or patient is more important than any other.
There are no shareholders, and we take pride in investing in our community with upgraded facilities, life-saving equipment, and best-in-class patient care.
As a charitable organization, we're committed to helping those who cannot pay for patient care.
History.
The tradition of community support and philanthropy is proven throughout the history of Health First, which dates back to 1937 with the opening of our flagship and largest hospital, known today as Health First's Holmes Regional Medical Center.
The very land the important 27-bed hospital was built upon was donated by local leaders in the community. Through the years, charitable gifts have continued to fund important expansions, purchase new equipment, and help train and hire dedicated nurses and physicians.
Today, the Health First Foundation continues to guide the charitable outreach of Health First.

FAQs.
We are the largest provider of charitable healthcare services in our community.
Our four not-for-profit hospitals treat and care for everyone who comes through our doors, including those who cannot pay for their care. We also invest millions of dollars back into the community each year.
Here’s where you come in.
We depend on the generosity of the community we serve. Donations to the Health First Foundation ensure we are able to purchase the newest life-saving equipment, invest in cutting-edge technology, and train the next generation of wellness leaders.
The majority of our revenue comes from our hospital and outpatient services, through Medicare and Medicaid, private insurance companies, and self-paying customers.
But we operate on the slimmest of margins, typically around 1 to 3 percent.
We have a wide range of medical facilities, wellness initiatives, community outreach, and family programs. We rely on community support and participation to provide the highest level of care for our patients and their loved ones.
For example, private donations and grants help provide hospice care for all patients, regardless of their ability to pay. They also support programs such as the Center for Family Caregivers, which is a community resource offering training, support groups, and social events for families affected by declining health and physical abilities, and memory disorders.
You can also choose for your donation to be given to the programs and resources that are in the greatest need of support.
